Creative, colorful ceremonies
Wedding & vow renewal celebrant service - from £600
Humanist weddings and vow renewals are creative, personal, and offer you the freedom to express yourselves through your day.
I meet with my couples at least four times in the lead up to your ceremony. I take the time to get to know you, finding out what makes you tick, how and why you fell in love, and your stories. We will weave this all together to create a ceremony that is memorable, unique and all about you.
You can include readings, music, personal memories, and any symbolic gestures or customs you may want – from wedding band warming and handfasting, to jumping over a broom or drinking from a quaich. I will listen to your ideas, guide you through these decisions and even support you with what to write in your vows.
FAQs
How are humanist weddings different from traditional weddings?
With a humanist wedding, you have the power to make your ceremony reflect your personalities. The structure, what you say or do is up to you. As your celebrant, I will offer you support, advice, and lead your ceremony on the day. You can also hold a humanist wedding anywhere. They are completely free of restrictions. Humanist weddings will not include any religious acts of worship.
Is a humanist wedding a legal service?
In 2005 humanist weddings became legal in Scotland, and in 2018 in Northern Ireland. Sadly, currently in England and Wales they are not a legal service, meaning you will still need to hold a civil ceremony - although Humanists UK are campaigning hard to get this changed. Don’t let this put you off, though. Much like you would register a child after birth, registering a civil partnership, or having a statutory marriage ceremony, can be carried out in under seven minutes for less than £50 at a registry office. And then you can really get creative with your humanist ceremony!
Will you officiate LGBTQ+ weddings?
Absolutely. Love is love. I’m a member of LGBT Humanists and a committed ally.
How early should we contact you?
As early as you can. Ideally, we need lots of time to get to know each other. However, if you’re on a short timeline do still get in touch. I can be flexible, and we can still put together the ceremony you want.
How will we work together?
I like to meet with my couples at least four times. We will have an initial meeting to discuss all your ideas and what you want from your day, then three other meetings in the lead up to your big day, including a wedding rehearsal. To help me get to know you I will also ask you to complete my couple’s questionnaire. Everything I learn about you in our meetings and from the questionnaire will help me to write the script for your wedding. You’ll also see a draft of the script and be able to make any changes so that we can get your ceremony absolutely perfect! On the day, I will act as Mistress of Ceremonies at your wedding and afterwards provide you with a presentation copy of your script as a special keepsake.
Can we include any hymns or prayers?
Humanist ceremonies generally don’t have any religious content. Instead, they’re all about you and your story as a couple.
What do you charge?
For my humanist wedding celebrant service, the price starts at £600, plus extra for travel outside of 40 miles. My fees are set within the recommended range of Humanists UK.
Where do you work?
I’m based in Cambridge but work across East Anglia and London. There is an extra charge for travel outside of 40 miles. For weddings, I will consider traveling further afield though (including overseas) – especially if it’s somewhere nice and sunny!

As a humanist celebrant, I would not lead any acts of worship. However, if there is something of particular religious significance to you, I am happy for a family member or friend to take ownership of that and make it part of the service.
